Diana Wynne Jones died today.
I've been telling people for years that she's the greatest living children's writer in the English language and, therefore, the greatest living writer in the English language.
I can't say that anymore.
Now I'm depressed.
It's very sad that there will be no more DWJ books, Peni. On the very day I heard Diana had died I rushed online to order copies of the books I hadn't read. Alas, there weren't many. But I suppose that was good news for my bank balance.
ReplyDeleteGood lord, Laraine, haven't heard from you in ages! How's it going and all that?
ReplyDeleteThere's still one book to come. And there's always the re-reading. She's great for bingeing on.
Hi Peni. Yes, indeed DWJ is great for bingeing on. I've gone back to several of her books already. Now I have two more that I haven't read, I'm planning on bingeing on YOUR books when I've finished these. I see there are many available in NZ now. At first I could find only Switching Well at the library, and I want to get my own copy of that too.
ReplyDeleteNot getting much writing done here. Well, to be honest none. I couldn't stand the frustration of all the interruptions any more now that we have Roger's elderly sister with us. She's 89 this year and getting steadily frailer--partly because she doesn't eat enough to give her the energy she needs to be active, and she WANTS to be active but is lucky to get a quarter the way through any item of food, even a scrumptious muffin. She even expects to be able to traipse around a supermarket with no breakfast under her belt!
Anyway, it's good to see that there are more books out there from you. :-) Keep up the good work.
